According to Western media reports, as part of the so-called arms race on the subcontinent, India conducted the eighth test of a strategic intercontinental ballistic missile "AGNI-5" (AGNI-5) of its own design. The launch that took place was the first "user launch" after the system was put into service and the first night test of the product.
The Agni-5 surface-to-surface three-stage solid-fuel 50-ton ballistic missile carries a warhead weighing 1.5 tons and develops a speed 24 times faster than the speed of sound. The launch was made from the island of Abdul Kalam (Abdul Kalam) off the coast of Odisha (Odisha). Before the ICBM head fell in the Bay of Bengal, the successful flight of the missile along the trajectory was constantly monitored by radar, optoelectronic tracking systems, telemetry stations and ships.

According to publications, the Agni-5 ballistic missile is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 5000 km with very high accuracy. The product is in service with the Command of the Strategic Forces of India. The AGNI series ICBMs form the basis of India's nuclear deterrence program. Foreign experts attach special importance to the test, since it was conducted during the ongoing border confrontation with China in the eastern Ladakh region (Ladakh) for about 19 months.
At the same time, it is noted that China went further and conducted the second test of its long-range hypersonic missile, developing speeds up to Mach 8. Observers called the first test launch carried out by China in August 2021 a failure, since the rocket, which is claimed to be able to stay in orbit for a long time, failed to hit the target. According to information from Washington, the Chinese weapons are called "destabilizing" by the American Space Forces Command and should "cause the awakening of the current US Administration."
