The American company SpaceX has launched a Falcon 9 launch vehicle, which will deliver the Turkish communications satellite Turksat 5A into orbit. This was reported on the company's Twitter account.
The launch from the Cape Canaveral cosmodrome was carried out at 22:58 East Coast time (06:58 Moscow time). Turkey's communications satellite weighing about 4.5 tons will be put into a geostationary orbit with a height of about 35.7 thousand kilometers. It is expected that it will be operated for at least 15 years.
This was the second SpaceX launch in the last 24 hours. Prior to that, a Falcon 9 launch vehicle with a constellation of Starlink microsatellites was launched from the site at the Vandenberg Air Force Base (California) at 04:42 local time (15:42 Moscow time).
On January 8, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 launch vehicle with the Turkish communication satellite Turksat 5A. The satellite, designed to provide digital television and broadband Internet services, will start operating in the second half of 2021. It will be the fourth Turkish spacecraft in orbit.
