According to the author of the publication, Russia does not place the same bet on its own carrier strike groups as the United States. This is due to the different approach to military doctrine.
"Russia has always been a land power. While the United States is a maritime power that needs a fleet to project power on a global scale, the main mission of the Russian navy is to protect the vast Eurasian borders," the publication explains.
However, the new weapons give Russia a certain advantage over American aircraft carriers. In particular, the author of the material cites as an example the anti-ship hypersonic missile "Zircon" and an underwater drone with a nuclear engine "Poseidon", the explosion of which is capable of causing a tsunami. Such weapons can sink an aircraft carrier.
The American edition writes that Russia is able to neutralize the threat from carrier strike groups in the event of a major conflict, but hopes that such a collision will never happen. "Given the catastrophic global consequences of such a conflict, let's hope that it will forever remain hypothetical," the article says.
