MOSCOW, Dec 18 - RIA Novosti. The US Navy Carrier Strike Group (CSG), which is also called the "ark of democracy", no longer seems to Russia to be an unstoppable sea giant. Mark Episkopos, a columnist for National Interest magazine, writes about this.
As the author notes, there is a fundamental difference between the two countries in understanding what constitutes naval power.
Russia in all its incarnations has always been a land power, where the Navy is used mainly to protect the vast borders of the country. The United States, in turn, needs a strong fleet to confront on a global scale, the journalist explained.
According to him, Russia does not have its own carrier strike group and does not plan to acquire it in the near future, but Moscow is well aware of the scale of the threat posed by the enemy's AUG.
Nevertheless, Russian experts are confident that the latest achievements in the field of the latest weapons technologies will provide tools to neutralize these formations in the event of a large-scale war with NATO.
In particular, the observer mentions the new cruise anti-ship hypersonic missile 3M22 "Zircon" and the upcoming underwater unmanned vehicle with a nuclear engine "Poseidon".
