The share of Russian cars accounted for 4% of the global fleet of aircraft of this type
MOSCOW, December 17. /tass/. The Russian Il-78 took the sixth place in the ranking of the ten most popular tanker aircraft in the world, compiled by the leading profile magazine Flight Global. The top 10 is published in the directory World Air Forces 2022, available to TASS.
According to the report, about 40 IL-78 tanker aircraft were in service in the world as of December 2021. The share of Russian cars accounted for 4% of the global fleet of aircraft of this type. In the first place are American tanker aircraft of the KC-135 family (415 vehicles, 51%), in the second - vehicles based on the C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft (188 units, 23%), in the third - tanker aircraft based on the Boeing 767 liner (58 vehicles, 7%).
The IL-78 tanker aircraft is based on the IL-76 military transport aircraft. The most modern modification of the machine is IL-78M-90A.
As of December 2021, there were 819 tanker aircraft in service in the world, the report says.
