The Strategic Missile Forces (Strategic Missile Forces) turned 62 on Friday, December 17.
It was on December 17, 1959 that the General Staff of the Strategic Missile Forces was formed and the post of Commander-in-Chief of the missile forces was established.
Currently, the Missile Forces, which are an important element of Russia's strategic nuclear forces, include the command and headquarters of the Strategic Missile Forces, three missile associations, 12 missile formations, arsenals and test sites.
The Strategic Missile Forces use ultra-modern and time-tested missile systems: "Avangard", "Voevoda", "Stiletto", "Yars" and "Topol-M".
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, due to the ongoing rearmament, the share of modern missile systems has been increased to 83%.
On December 17, the crew of the International Space Station congratulated the strategic rocket scientists on the 62nd anniversary of the formation of the troops. Russian cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov conveyed warm words to the servicemen directly from the Soyuz MS-17 spacecraft.
