MOSCOW, Dec 16 - RIA Novosti. The Russian Orion-E reconnaissance and strike drone was shortlisted for the Malaysian Defense Ministry tender, Dmitry Shugaev, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) of Russia, told RIA Novosti.
The tender for the purchase of three UAVs in the interests of the Royal Malaysian Air Force was held between August 2020 and November 2020.
"According to the information we have, the Russian proposal has been shortlisted by the Malaysian Defense Ministry," Shugaev said.
Orion is a medium-altitude drone with a long flight duration (MALE, Medium Altitude, Long Endurance) developed by Kronstadt.
On the official website of the Kronstadt company, some characteristics of the Orion are given: the payload weight is 250 kilograms, the cruising speed is up to 200 kilometers per hour.
The export version of the UAV is called "Orion-E". The variant for the Russian army is called "Pacer".
The drone can be armed with KAB-20, KAB-50 adjustable aerial bombs, UPAB-50 guided gliding aerial bombs, FAB-50 free-falling aerial bombs, X-50 aircraft guided missiles.
