The US Marine Corps abandoned the use of AAV tracked amphibious vehicles after the 2020 incident in which nine people died.
- AAV will return to work only if it is necessary to respond to a crisis, - said Tas&Purpose representative of the ILC, Major Jim Stanger. The machines will not be used in planned deployments and training on the water. At the same time, the use of the armored car on land will continue. 76 percent of AAV's tasks are performed on land, Stanger noted.
Recall that on July 30, an amphibious armored car sank during a marine corps exercise off the island of San Clemente, Calivornia. The driver and eight Marines were killed. The investigation report says that the landing vehicles of the platoon where the emergency occurred are "in a terrible state," and the eight dead were not trained to leave the sinking car.
