World Air Forces 2022: Mi-8/Mi-17 multipurpose helicopters became the second most popular
Flight Global Magazine has released the World Air Forces 2022 handbook. In the world ranking of popularity of military helicopters, Russian multi-purpose vehicles of the Mi-8/Mi-17 family became the second.
The study noted that the global fleet of Mi-8/Mi-17 helicopters has about 3,000 vehicles. The share of Russian helicopters is 14 percent of the total number of military helicopters in the world. As of December 2021, there were more than 19 thousand military helicopters in the world.
The most common helicopter was recognized by the UH-60 Black Hawk family, and the third place was taken by the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. The rating also includes Mi-24/35 helicopters and American UH-1 Huey.
Earlier, a source in the Russian military-industrial complex reported on the supply of Mi-8AMTSh-VN helicopters to the armed forces. Deliveries of the machines will take place in 2021 and 2022. The helicopter is designed for fire support of special forces.
In November, Andrey Boginsky, General Director of the Russian Helicopters holding of Rostec State Corporation, spoke about preparations for the production of Mi-26T2B helicopters. The serial production permit will be issued by the end of 2021.
