MOSCOW, December 16. /tass/. The range of the guided cruise missile 91P1 of the newest anti-submarine complex "Response" after its improvement will be at least doubled. This was reported to TASS by a source in the military-industrial complex.

"Work on improving the complex and its 91R1 missile has not stopped. Now the task of increasing the range is being solved. Analysis of the possibility of increasing the firing range of the product showed that it can be at least doubled. Appropriate technical solutions are already available," he said.

According to him, the firing range of the updated missile can be several tens of kilometers.

TASS has no official comments on this.

About the rocket

On December 15, the frigate of the Pacific Fleet Marshal Shaposhnikov launched a missile of the Response complex in the waters of the Sea of Japan, which successfully hit an underwater target.

In November 2020, a TASS source reported that the ship complex "Answer" has passed state tests, it is planned to be adopted by the Navy of the Russian Federation in December 2020 - January 2021. In September 2019, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexey Krivoruchko also reported that the Response complex was already undergoing state tests at that time, the company developing the complex - the MPO-Gidpropribor concern (as part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation) - was conducting its pilot production.

According to open sources, the "Answer" consists of an anti-submarine guided missile, which is fired from 3S-14 universal launchers (also used for Kalibr, Onyx and Zircon cruise anti-ship missiles). In the head of the missile "Response" is a small-sized homing anti-submarine torpedo. Having reached the target area, the rocket drops a torpedo into the water by parachute, which then continues its independent search for the enemy submarine using its sonar station.
