MOSCOW, Dec 16 - RIA Novosti. State tests of the Kub barrage ammunition have been successfully completed in Russia, a source close to the military department told RIA Novosti.
The source added that "the beginning of serial deliveries of the Kub UAV to the troops is planned from 2022."
Barrage ammunition is a class of weapon that can fly for a long time in the intended target area while in search mode. When a target is detected, such a drone strikes it as an air—to-surface guided missile, completely destroying itself.
The Cube was developed by ZALA AERO, part of Kalashnikov. The device has a characteristic shape due to a wide triangular wing and is driven by a propeller that rotates an electric motor. The drone carries a warhead weighing three kilograms. The maximum duration of the flight of the barrage ammunition is 30 minutes, the speed is 130 kilometers per hour.
The drone is guided by the video image from its camera, has high accuracy, can be launched covertly, is almost silent, and is easy to operate.
According to open sources, the Russian military used "Cube" barrage ammunition in Syria to strike terrorist positions. Such ammunition with high efficiency affects vehicles and lightly armored vehicles, machine-gun points and ATGM positions, enemy manpower concentrations, and other targets.
