Washington. December 15th. INTERFAX - The US Senate, following the House of Representatives, voted to adopt the draft US defense budget for 2022 in the amount of $778 billion, Bloomberg reported.
The agency clarified that, although the vote in the Senate continues, the project has already gained enough votes "for" senators. Thus, the US Congress approved the draft, which will then be sent for signature to US President Joe Biden.
The Wall Street Journal notes that the project, in particular, provides for the allocation of $ 300 million for training and equipment, including $75 million for lethal weapons, of the armed forces of Ukraine.
Another $13.3 billion should be spent on the construction of military facilities and $27.3 billion on the creation of warships. In total, according to The Wall Street Journal, the defense budget of 2022 increased by 5% compared to the previous year.
The draft budget also provides for the formation of a commission to investigate the circumstances of the US war in Afghanistan.
Earlier, Western media also learned that another $4 billion is provided for the European Defense Initiative and $150 million for the development of cooperation with the Baltic states in the field of security.
