Moscow. December 15th. INTERFAX - Tank and motorized rifle units conducted firing drills at a training ground in the Volgograd region, the Southern Military District reported.
"At the combined arms training ground of the Southern Military District (SE) Prudboy, combat firing of tank and motorized rifle units of the SE unit stationed in the Volgograd region took place," the report says.
Tankers fired regular shells from T-90A tanks in the daytime and at night at suddenly appearing targets simulating tanks of a conditional enemy. The tankers also destroyed low-flying aircraft of the imaginary enemy at a distance of 600 to 1200 m from large-caliber machine guns "Cord".
"At the final stage of the coordination of the departments of motorized rifle units, the servicemen performed firing from infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3. The motorized skirmishers fired from the entire complex of weapons of military equipment - a 100-mm cannon, a 30-mm automatic cannon and a 7.62-mm PKT machine gun - at targets simulating armored vehicles and manpower of a conditional enemy," the press service of the Southern Military District reported.
On April 20, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the combat capabilities of the South Caucasus troops are increasing due to NATO's attempts to counteract the normalization of the situation in a number of countries of the Transcaucasus and the Middle East. "The unstable state of affairs is observed in a number of countries in the Middle East region and Transcaucasia. The alliance's attempts to counteract its normalization force us to take symmetrical strategic deterrence measures and increase the combat capabilities of the troops of the Southern Military District," Shoigu said at the time.
