The frigate of the Pacific Fleet "Marshal Shaposhnikov" launched a missile of the newest anti-submarine complex "Response" in the Sea of Japan at a training underwater target, the warhead of the missile successfully hit the target, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
On the air of Sputnik radio, the executive editor of the Independent Military Review, captain of the 3rd rank of the reserve Dmitry Litovkin spoke about the principle of operation of the Response complex.
"We have so-called torpedo missiles in our fleet – these are anti-submarine weapons that, unlike torpedoes that are simply dropped into the water, launch like a rocket. At a certain moment, a torpedo separates from it, which sinks into the water in the area of the target, begins searching for this target and hits it. The "answer" works exactly on this principle. The main advantage of this complex is this: a submarine can theoretically "hear" a torpedo and take maneuvers to evade a meeting with it, and the "Response" actually attacks vertically downwards – the submarine has less chance," Dmitry Litovkin said.
According to the military expert, the same 3S-14 universal launchers are used to launch anti-submarine missiles of the Response complex, as for the Onyx and Kalibr cruise missiles, and in the future they will be used for the Zircon.
"It turns out to be a universal anti-submarine system, since 3S-14 launchers are currently installed on almost all of our modern ships - from small to Admiral Kasatonov-type frigates. This is a very good solution. The universal launcher is a "honeycomb". It turns out that the reaction time is only 10 seconds - from receiving the target designation to the exit of the means of destruction from the mine. The commander of the ship can choose: "Calibers" will fly along the shore, if you shoot at ships, then "Onyx" will fly, and if it is necessary to sink submarines or an unmanned underwater vehicle, then the "Answer" can start," Dmitry Litovkin noted.
