Washington. December 13. INTERFAX - The US Navy will withdraw from its combat strength five Ticonderoga-type missile cruisers equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, as part of the optimization of forces and reducing the cost of maintaining them, follows from these Congressional decisions on fleet financing.
According to reports, as part of the US Navy's proposal, the cruisers built in the 80-90 years of the last century that have served their time will be written off.
Initially, the US Navy proposed to decommission seven ships of this class and replace them with new destroyers and frigates. However, Congress approved the decommissioning of only five cruisers.
