INTERFAX-KAZAKHSTAN - The Kazakh-Russian intergovernmental Commission discussed topical areas of cooperation concerning the prospects for joint use and further development of the Baikonur complex, as well as improving the living conditions of the city of Baikonur, the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan reported.
"The members of the intergovernmental commission paid special attention to the joint project for the creation of the Baiterek space rocket complex, a list of measures and deadlines for implementation were determined. The tasks of rational operation of the property of the complex, modernization of infrastructure, and the social sphere were also considered," the message issued on Monday on the results of the work of the seventh intergovernmental commission on the Baikonur complex said.
At the plenary session chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov, the participants separately focused on the importance of improving the environmental safety of the region and the cosmodrome, issues of decommissioning, decommissioning and disposal of unused facilities of the complex, the information says.
"The experts found mutually acceptable solutions on the agenda items, which is reflected in the minutes of the IPC meeting. At the end of the meeting, the parties noted the high level of interaction and the availability of the necessary potential for the successful implementation of tasks in the strategic areas of the Baikonur complex," the message reads.
Baiterek is a Russian-Kazakh space rocket complex under construction on Baikonur, from which it is planned to launch Soyuz-5 rockets.
As the Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Alexey Borodavkin reported earlier, at a meeting of the Kazakh-Russian intergovernmental commission on the Baikonur complex on December 13, it is planned to finalize agreements on the implementation of the Baiterek project.
