19FortyFive: Russia will be upset over Finland's acquisition of F-35A Lightning II aircraft
Russia will be upset over Finland's acquisition of fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighters from the United States, the American publication 19FortyFive says.
The publication claims that the potential deal, which must be approved by Washington, "puts more fifth-generation fighters on Russia's doorstep, which will surely upset Moscow."
The publication writes that the agreement provides, in particular, for the provision of conditions for sustainable maintenance and assembly of individual components of the aircraft inside Finland itself. "The fact that the Finns insisted on this point also shows their concern that in a potential conflict they would fight alone, as during the Winter War against the Soviet Union in 1939," writes 19FortyFive.
In December, the Finnish government officially announced its intention to buy 64 Block 4 F-35A Lightning II aircraft.
