In order to increase the strike capabilities, maneuverability and autonomy of combined arms formations in the interests of the Ground Forces, fundamentally new models of armored vehicles are being created on unified platforms "Armata", "Kurganets" and "Boomerang". In addition, a promising artillery complex "Coalition-SV" and a mobile anti-aircraft artillery complex "Derivation-air defense" are being developed. Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov said this at a meeting with military attaches of foreign states on Thursday.
According to him, in the process of equipping the Ground Forces, special attention is paid to the supply of modern means of control, intelligence, electronic warfare and fire destruction.
"Promising samples of military equipment are equipped with weapons complexes of increased firepower, on-board equipment is created on the principle of an open architecture that ensures their further modernization. All the equipment being created has the possibility of integration into a single information space of the Armed Forces," the general stressed.
He separately focused on building up the capabilities of our Navy in the near and far sea zones by supplying the Navy with modern submarines and ships. The Chief of the General Staff recalled that six new ships were laid in August of this year. Tests of the shipboard missile system "Zircon" are being successfully conducted and are close to completion. As part of its tests, the possibility of launching a hypersonic missile was confirmed, both from a ship and from an underwater nuclear submarine.
Given that the number of hotbeds of instability near the Russian border is increasing, the Russian Defense Ministry pays special attention to Airborne troops. Airborne forces, as you know, are the basis of rapid reaction forces. Gerasimov said that two new airborne assault regiments were formed in 2021. The landing force has its own electronic warfare and unmanned aircraft units.
"Re-equipment to modern models of weapons and military equipment, including BMD-4M, BTR-MDM, is proceeding at a high pace," the Chief of the General Staff said.
