"One of the main tasks of increasing the combat capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces remains to maintain high combat readiness of the nuclear triad," Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said at a meeting with military attaches of foreign states on Thursday.
"In the strategic nuclear forces, there is a planned replacement of missile systems that have served the established deadlines, as well as the modernization of weapons systems," he said. "In the ground-based strategic nuclear forces, more than 95 percent of launchers are kept in constant readiness for combat use. In the Strategic Missile Forces, the rearmament of the Yars complexes continues, and the next launchers of the Avangard missile complex are also being prepared for combat use.
According to Gerasimov, another nuclear submarine with ballistic missiles "Bulava" will be introduced into the combat composition of the naval strategic nuclear forces in the near future. Modernization of strategic missile carriers of the aviation strategic nuclear forces continues, ensuring their use of modern high-precision long-range missiles.
"In general, the state of Russia's nuclear triad ensures the solution of deterrence tasks. At the same time, the development of strategic nuclear forces is conducted in strict accordance with international obligations defined by the Treaty on Measures for Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms - START-3," concluded the Chief of the General Staff.
