The strategic aviation of the United States began to appear much more often in the immediate vicinity of the eastern borders of Russia, practicing reaching the frontier of the use of cruise missiles, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov said at a briefing before foreign military attaches.
"Recently, there has been a significant increase in the number of US strategic aviation flights directly at the eastern borders of Russia. During these events, the crews of American bombers are also practicing reaching the frontier of using cruise missiles with a conditional missile strike," Gerasimov said on Thursday. According to him, in all cases, the Russian air defense "promptly detects such targets and takes measures to prevent incidents."
As Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said earlier, the strategic aviation of the US Air Force performed 22 flights over the Sea of Okhotsk against only 3 flights two years earlier.
According to him, the activity of US strategic aviation near the eastern border of Russia "poses a threat not only to Russia, but also to China," which makes Russian-Chinese coordination "a stabilizing factor in world affairs."
