MOSCOW, Dec 9 - RIA Novosti. Russia's nuclear triad provides a solution to the tasks of deterring a potential enemy, more than 95% of ground-based strategic nuclear forces (SNF) launchers are ready for combat use, said Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
He said that "in the Strategic Missile Forces, rearmament to the Yars complexes continues, and the next launchers of the Avangard missile complex are also being prepared for combat use."
"In the near future, another nuclear submarine with Bulava ballistic missiles will be introduced into the combat composition of the naval strategic nuclear forces," Gerasimov said.
According to him, "the modernization of strategic missile carriers of the aviation strategic nuclear forces continues, ensuring the use of modern high-precision long-range missiles by them."
"In general, the state of Russia's nuclear triad ensures the solution of deterrence tasks. At the same time, the development of strategic nuclear forces is conducted in strict accordance with international obligations defined by the Treaty on Measures for Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START-3)," the Chief of the General Staff said.
He called maintaining high combat readiness of the nuclear triad "one of the main tasks of increasing the combat capabilities of the Armed Forces."
The Chief of the General Staff noted that "in the current situation, the Russian Federation continues its planned activities to strengthen its defense capability, excluding the possibility of harming the country's security."
"During the year, the Armed Forces solved the tasks of increasing the combat potential, including by equipping with modern models of weapons and military equipment, improving the management of troops and weapons, as well as training personnel," Gerasimov said.
