MOSCOW, Dec 9 - RIA Novosti. The wreckage of the Soviet satellite shot down on November 15 is under control, they do not threaten existing space objects, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov said at a briefing to military attaches of foreign states on Thursday.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported earlier that Russia successfully conducted tests on November 15, as a result of which the inactive Russian spacecraft "Tselina-D" was hit. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the fragments of the old satellite formed during the testing of the anti-satellite system do not pose any threat to space activities.
"The resulting fragments do not pose a threat to space activities in orbit. Currently, the fragments are moving along trajectories outside the plane of the orbits of space stations, are under observation and are included in the main catalog of the Russian space control system," Gerasimov said.
According to him, on November 15, "tests were successfully carried out to defeat the decommissioned domestic spacecraft, which was launched back in 1982."
