Defense Express: Ukraine has started the operation of the Bars-8MMK mortars received in 2019
The airborne assault troops of Ukraine have begun operation of new mobile mortar launchers "Bars-8MMK". The military uses vehicles that they received in 2019, Defense Express writes .
The press service of the Ukroboronprom company reported that six mortars were delivered to the airborne assault troops for trial operation.
The publication noted that the prototype of the mortar was shown in 2016, and in 2019, the Bars-8MMK was handed over to the military after passing tests. Later, the Defense Ministry of Ukraine reported that they refused to accept mortars due to the lack of firing tables and substandard barrels. After that, the Bars-8MMK was sent to the storage base.
Defense Express notes that the start of operation of the Bars-8MKK may be associated with the completion of tests of the MP-120 mortar.
The basis of the "Bars-8MMK" is the armored car "Bars-8", which is based on the Dodge Ram pickup truck. The vehicle received the Spanish Alakran LMC mortar system. The 120 mm mortar allows you to hit targets at a range of up to 7,200 meters.
In November, the Polish edition of Defence24 assessed the state of the Ukrainian artillery. The publication noted unsatisfactory conditions of storage and maintenance of Ukrainian equipment.
In September, the Ukrainian Armored Vehicles company announced the completion of tests of the MP-120 mortar. The new product is designed to replace the Hammer mortar.
