Tanks with two guns are now often found in computer games, and many perceive them as something fantastic. However, in real life, the designers thought about arming combat vehicles with a pair of guns, which would significantly increase their firepower.
However, as a rule, options with one large-caliber gun and a small-caliber automatic were assumed. At various times, this was worked out in England, the USA, Germany, France and, of course, in the Soviet Union. We even got such an idea, but not on tanks, but on infantry and amphibious combat vehicles.
In the USSR in the 60s, it was proposed to create a sample with two powerful guns - rocket launchers, but nothing appeared in the metal.
In the 70s, two experimental samples with two 105-mm and 120-mm guns were already manufactured in West Germany, which were intensively tested until 1976.
In our country, during the work on Object 490 "Topol", they wanted to mount a pair of 152-mm guns with an automated loading system in a rotating tower.
To combat light armored vehicles, a 23-mm machine gun was supposed to serve. Of course, they did not forget about the 7.62 mm PKT.
A 1250-horsepower gas turbine and a hydropneumatic suspension provided good mobility. Modern surveillance and detection devices at that time were supposed to give a crew of two people the opportunity to effectively control the tank and use weapons.
Unfortunately, these largely revolutionary solutions were not embodied in metal, although there were opportunities for such a machine to appear.
