The crews of the ships of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) of Russia and the Egyptian Navy have started the three-day maritime phase of the joint exercises "Friendship Bridge - 2021" in the Mediterranean Sea, the press service of the Black Sea Fleet said on Monday.
"During the naval phase of the exercise taking place in the area of the Gulf of Alexandria, the crews of the ships of the two countries will carry out a set of joint actions to assist a ship in distress, escort ships behind trawls, repel attacks by surface vehicles, organize resupply at sea and conduct inspection operations against suspicious vessels. In addition, when working out actions for the comprehensive protection and defense of ships at sea crossing, the crews will perform joint artillery firing on surface and air targets, as well as targets simulating floating mines," the navy said.
It is specified that the detachment of ships of the Russian Navy includes the frigate Admiral Grigorovich with a Ka-27PS helicopter on board, the patrol ship Dmitry Rogachev and the rescue tug SB-742. A detachment of Egyptian Navy ships is represented by a frigate, two corvettes and a support vessel.
"Detachments of Russian and Egyptian warships operate according to a single plan under the general guidance of the joint headquarters of the exercise. From the Russian Navy, the international headquarters is headed by the commander of the Novorossiysk Naval Base of the Black Sea Fleet, Rear Admiral Viktor Kochemazov," the navy noted.
It is added that the participants of the exercises had previously held a two-day coastal phase - during this time, communication training between the participating ships and a pre-arrival conference with the participation of the commanders and officers of the ships were held.
The objectives of the Friendship Bridge -2021 exercises, which are held on December 3-10, are to strengthen and develop military cooperation between the Russian Navy and the Egyptian Navy in the interests of security and stability in the region. The Russian-Egyptian Friendship Bridge exercises have been held since 2015. In 2020, they were held in the Black Sea with the entry of participating ships into the port of Novorossiysk, this year they are held in the Mediterranean.
