The Russian autonomous underwater nuclear system Poseidon will become an effective tool that Moscow can use during negotiations with the United States. This is written by military expert Brent Eastwood in the publication 19FortyFive.
He explains that this type of weapon is not a missile and this makes it difficult to classify during arms control negotiations. In addition, Poseidon's potentially unlimited range and stealth could be a response to Washington's deployment of a global missile defense system, giving President Vladimir Putin leverage over the Americans.
It is noted that the coastal cities of the United States are capable of becoming the target of Poseidon, armed with nuclear warheads with a capacity of up to two megatons. According to the publication, by 2027 Russia will have 50 such torpedoes.
In August, the American edition of USNI News noticed that in a picture from space of Maxar Technologies, demonstrating the oceanographic research vessel Akademik Alexandrov of the 20183 project in Severodvinsk (Arkhangelsk region), you can see a product that resembles a Russian torpedo of the apocalypse — a nuclear underwater drone Poseidon 2M39.
