One of the demonstrators reusable stages promising Russian light rocket "Wing-SV" get chassis, turbojet engine and nose cone as the plane that would take off, fly and return to the airfield as well as drone (UAV), reports RIA Novosti, citing a source in the rocket and space industry.
"The test dates have not yet been precisely determined, preliminarily, the first atmospheric flight of the demonstrator stage should take place in the second half of 2022," the source said.
The source added that the wing of such a UAV will be made rectangular. "The reusable stage, which has the possibility of atmospheric flight, will allow launching the Krylo-SV with a wide range of inclinations, since it will be able to return to the cosmodrome after flying hundreds of kilometers," the source said.
In April, Boris Satovsky, head of the experimental design bureau of the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (TsNIIMash), said that the reusable first stage of the Krylo-SV light rocket being created in Russia could receive skis for landing.
Structurally, the "Krylo-SV" resembles a reusable cruise missile "Baikal", work on which was carried out in the Center of Khrunichev. In length, the "Wing-SV" reaches six meters, in diameter — 0.8 meters. The work within the framework of the relevant project is carried out with the support of the Foundation for Advanced Research (FPI).
