TSAMTO, December 3. The increase in the combat capabilities of the Northern Fleet troops (forces) is in line with the general concept of the development of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and in strict accordance with the plans of the Ministry of Defense.
This was stated by the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, during the strategic session "Security Architecture of the Arctic region: ahead of the challenges of the time" of the XI International Forum "The Arctic: Present and Future".
"As an adequate response to the growth of the combat potential of NATO countries in the Arctic, a planned supply of modern weapons, military and special equipment of general purpose is being carried out to the fleet," the commander added.
As part of the implementation of measures aimed at improving the system of integrated control over the air, surface and underwater situation in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, a continuous zone of radar detection of air and surface targets along the northern border of the Russian Federation has been created, the implementation of a set of measures carried out by the forces of the Northern Fleet to illuminate the underwater situation in the coastal areas of the Arctic zone has been organized.
In addition, as part of the implementation of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic, the reconstruction of the polar airfield network and port infrastructure continues, the construction of military camps on the islands of the Arctic Ocean and on the Arctic coast to accommodate formations and units of the Northern Fleet, which provides a comfortable modern environment for military personnel to perform their tasks.
The implementation of measures for the development of military infrastructure will make it possible to respond promptly to possible threats to the safety of navigation and maritime economic activity in the entire water area of the Northern Sea Route, increase the capabilities of marine rescue coordination centers, use airfields of the Northern Fleet aviation as spare ones, in case of emergency landing of civil aviation aircraft.
