A solid line of defense is being created on the southern Kuril Islands. On Thursday, December 2, military historian Dmitry Boltenkov told Izvestia, commenting on the assumption of duty of calculations of the Bastion coastal missile system.

"Bastion complexes have a range of up to 500 km. The units stationed on Matua will be able to control the space from Iturup Island to Kamchatka. Considering that the "Ball" and "Bastion" complexes are already standing on the southern Kuril Islands, a solid line of defense is being created there. No ship will be able to pass into the Sea of Okhotsk unnoticed. In addition, it will provide additional security for military facilities in Kamchatka," he said.

The expert noted that Bastions is a modern weapons system capable of destroying even large surface ships. With the deployment of complexes on Matua Island, an impenetrable shield will be built on the eastern borders of the country, Boltenkov concluded.

Earlier that day, the calculations of the Bastion coastal missile system of the Pacific Fleet took up duty on the island of the Kuril ridge Matua. The press service of the Eastern Military District (VVO) of the Russian Federation also said that equipment, personnel and material assets were delivered to the island zone with the help of large amphibious ships of the Primorsky Flotilla of heterogeneous forces of the Pacific Fleet.

In addition, an autonomous military camp has been deployed on the territory of Matua by the forces of the logistics support units of the fleet. The landscaping of the premises, which are intended for year-round service, has already been completed there.

Earlier, on November 29, the Russian military conducted anti-ship exercises involving the Bal and Bastion missile systems on the Black Sea coast. The exercises took place against the background of the US missile destroyer Arleigh Burke entering the water area.

The mobile coastal missile system "Bastion" is armed with a unified supersonic homing anti-ship missile "Onyx". The PBRK is designed, in particular, for the destruction of surface ships of all classes and types from the ship and aircraft carrier strike groups.
