In the noughties, Ukraine continued to think about what to do with outdated T-64A tanks. No modernization made it possible to tighten their characteristics to a modern level, the best thing that could be done with them was to adapt them to solve engineering problems, use them as training until the resource was fully developed, and then dispose of them.
Employees of the Kharkov repair plant, who literally languished from idleness (there were no orders) came up with the idea to make tracked and wheeled infantry fighting vehicles out of them. Especially strange was the last project, which even some experts already considered insane.
The infantry fighting vehicle, although it was supposed to be wheeled (6x6), but it had to turn only in a tank way: the wheels on the opposite side had to slow down. I wonder what was the resource of the chassis.
The design was supposed to use elements of the tank body, a 700-horsepower engine. It was reported that the 270 mm thick frontal armor had to withstand the impact of 90 mm armor-piercing sub-caliber shells.
The 82-mm side armor also had a 20-mm anti-cumulative shield and could withstand a PG-7VM rocket-propelled grenade. The 40-mm aft armor was not susceptible to 14.5mm armor-piercing KPVT bullets.
Armament - one machine gun 12.7-mm NSVT "Utes". It was assumed that the maximum speed on the highway could be 105 km/h, and the fuel reserve of 800 km. However, in reality, these characteristics have not been achieved.
The mass of the combat vehicle is 17700 kg. The crew is 2-3 people and eight people are landing. A mock-up was made, but such an "innovation" was not accepted by its military department, foreign guests who visited the enterprise were also not interested in this development.
