Military expert Viktor Murakhovsky on Wednesday, December 1, in an interview with Izvestia, assessed the beginning of the exercises in the Southern Military District, and also spoke about their characteristic features.
"December 1 is the beginning of a new academic year in the military. The new training period begins with classes on combat and mobilization readiness, usually three days are given for this. All elements of bringing units and formations to the highest degree of combat readiness are being worked out. Then the implementation of combat training programs begins," he explained.
The military expert noted that first individual skills are worked out, then as part of crews and calculations, and then the stages of combat coordination of units are carried out. Starting from the platoon level, each stage ends with exercises, usually with live firing, Murakhovsky added.
"A characteristic feature of recent years is the conduct of bilateral exercises, when the enemy is designated by a non-target situation. In this case, the quality of training of commanders and staffs increases significantly. But it all starts with measures for combat and mobilization readiness," he concluded.
Earlier in the day, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that servicemen as part of battalion tactical groups (BTGr) of motorized rifle and tank formations of the Southern Military District marched to the areas of combined-arms ranges.
The Southern Military District added that autonomous field camps of the APL-500 are equipped on the basis of the main training grounds for the accommodation of personnel. Such camps are located at the Prudboy landfills in the Volgograd region, Ashuluk in the Astrakhan region, Tarskoye in North Ossetia, Nikolo-Alexandrovsky in Stavropol, Kadamovsky and Kuzminsky in the Rostov region and Opuk in the Crimea.
For the rest of the units, classes of the winter training period will start at points of permanent deployment — in classrooms and at the barracks educational and material base within the framework of the second and third training modules, the ministry said.
In addition, the Southern Military District noted that Russian military personnel in 2022 will conduct a command and staff exercise (KShU) with groups of troops in the southwest. More than 3 thousand combat training events are planned in desert and mountainous terrain.
