The Russian Navy is expected to receive the first serial nuclear submarines "Prince Oleg" of project 955A (code "Borey-A") and "Novosibirsk" of project 885M (code "Yasen-M") by the end of the year. This was announced on Wednesday, December 1, by the head of the Russian Defense Ministry, Sergei Shoigu.
"In December, it is planned to transfer the first serial nuclear cruisers Prince Oleg and Novosibirsk," Shoigu said at a conference call.
The submarines of Project 955 and 955A belong to the fourth generation. The length of the Prince Oleg submarine is 170 m, the width is 13.5 m, it sinks to a depth of 450 m. The construction is being carried out by the Sevmash defense shipyard.
In October, as part of the state tests, a successful launch of the Bulava ballistic missile from the Prince Oleg from the White Sea was carried out.
The Project 885 Yasen submarines (885M Yasen-M) are a series of Russian multipurpose nuclear submarines with cruise missiles of the fourth generation. Their construction is also underway at Sevmash.
The Novosibirsk submarine was launched in October 2019. Its length is 130 m, and its width is 13 m.
