In Russia, the first MC-21-300 aircraft was built with a wing made of Russian-made composite materials. The aircraft was transferred to the flight test unit. This is reported by Rostec.
The aircraft was assembled at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. The MS-21-300 was transferred from the Irkut Corporation branch of the United Aircraft Corporation to the flight test unit for ground checks and preparation for test flights.
The wing of the aircraft was created using polymer composite materials of Russian production. The development of materials began after the US imposed trade restrictions on aErocOmposite in 2018.
Rostec stressed that the materials for MS-21 composite structures were developed with the participation of MSU scientists and Rosatom specialists. The wing of the aircraft is produced using a patented vacuum infusion technology. The wing consoles and the center section are manufactured at the Aerocomposite-Ulyanovsk enterprise.
In October, Rostec reported testing the PD-14 engine with volcanic ash. After exposure to the ash of the Shiveluch volcano, the characteristics of the engine's gas generator have hardly changed.
In August, the head of the UAC, Yuri Slyusar, announced the start date of regular MS-21 flights. According to him, the aircraft will begin to operate regular flights in 2022.
