The range of the ZRPC has been increased and sufficiently confident identification of drones is provided in the affected area, the editor-in-chief of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine noted
MOSCOW, December 1. /tass/. The new improved anti-aircraft missile and gun system (ZRPC) "Pantsir-S1M" with an increased target range will be able to shoot down attack drones even before they launch their aircraft weapons. This opinion was expressed by TASS editor-in-chief of the magazine "Arsenal of the Fatherland" Viktor Murakhovsky.
"Drones have a low effective scattering surface, their detection range is often less than the range of their weapons. The range of the "Shell" has been increased and a fairly confident identification of drones is provided in the affected area," the military expert said.
However, according to Murakhovsky, some drones are so small and equipped with electric motors that they are almost impossible to detect by infrared trace or radar. "The use of optoelectronic means in new air defense systems should be based not only on thermal contrast, but also, for example, on optical contrast," he noted.
As the expert clarified, it is still not necessary to consider the new complexes themselves a panacea. "The fight against drones implies the creation of a layered integrated air defense system integrated with the electronic warfare system," Murakhovsky stressed.
"It should also be borne in mind that even a fairly large drone is still a very cheap product compared to a conventional aircraft, and, of course, it would be necessary to reduce the cost of anti-aircraft guided missiles, which are used to combat such cheap products. Such work was carried out and an inexpensive small-sized missile was created for another domestic air defense complex - the Tor," the military expert added.
Upgraded "Shell"
On November 30, industrial director of the arms cluster of Rostec State Corporation Bekhan Ozdoev told TASS that the upgraded Pantsir-S1M is capable of fighting all types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including shock.
In turn, Sergey Mikhailov, Deputy General Director of the High-Precision Complexes holding, told TASS during the EDEX 2021 international arms exhibition that this complex is capable of becoming the basis of tactical air defense, as well as covering any military units from small-sized and shock UAVs.
"Pantsir-S1M" received new hypersonic anti-aircraft guided missiles (SAM), which increased the target range from 20 to 30 km and height from 15 to 18 km, in general, the volume of the affected area increased three times. Along with the new missiles, the complex can use missiles from the Pantsir-S1 complex. In addition, the stealth and noise immunity of combat work have been increased, fire performance per unit of time has been improved.
On August 25, at the Army-2021 forum, it became known that Rosoboronexport signed the first contract for the supply of the Pantsir-S1M missile defense system.
