Russian Space Systems (RCS) has accelerated the production of integrated circuits for satellite data transmission systems tenfold, Roscosmos reports .
"The minimum production cycle of new monolithic integrated ultrahigh-frequency circuits of our own design is now three to five months against the five years that were required earlier to complete the entire chain - from the staging of development work to production at the factory with the participation of third parties. The difference is ten times," said Andrey Buyankin, head of the RCS department for the development of onboard ultra-high frequency (microwave) devices.
According to him, "the manufacture of its components will reduce the company's production costs by two to three times."
In July, Roscosmos announced that in the future, the positioning error of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) could be reduced by fifty times. According to Vitaly Sernov, head of the department of ground-based navigation and information systems and complexes of the RKS, satellite radio navigation systems GLONASS and Global Positioning System (GPS) "provide a location error within five meters and are suitable for the navigation requirements of a large number of users," however, "the high-precision complex of wide-range functional complement of global navigation satellite systems developed by the RKS can significantly improve the efficiency of GLONASS navigation services."
