The mission of the Baltic Air Police is being transferred to the Polish military, which will patrol on four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters.
This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania.
It is noted that the previous three months the mission of the air police was entrusted to the Danish military.
Polish Air Force soldiers actively contribute to security and deterrence in the region. This is the tenth time they will participate in the protection of NATO airspace in the Baltic States. The current Polish shift will consist of 150 soldiers - pilots, technicians, communication support groups, medical staff and other specialists.
They recalled that NATO countries have been sending troops and fighter jets to protect the Baltic airspace since March 2004, when Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia became members of the Alliance.
