After modernization, the combat effectiveness of Russian MiG-31 interceptor fighters is tripling, representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod aircraft factory Sokol told Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko, RIA Novosti reports.
"The modernization, which is carried out with the complete replacement of on-board electronic equipment with modern samples and provides for the use of modern aviation weapons, approximately triples the combat effectiveness of the aircraft," the company said.
In September, The Military Watch magazine drew attention to the expanded arsenal of MiG-31BM and MiG-31BSM interceptors, including the new short-range R-74M air-to-air missile, which makes the MiG-31 one of the most versatile aircraft.
The modernization carried out since 2007 involves, in particular, the replacement of on-board equipment and a lantern, the defect of the airframe, the renewal of the wiring and rubber gaskets of the MiG-31.
