TSAMTO, November 25. The company General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) on its Twitter page announced a ceremony held at the company in Brunswick (Maine) dedicated to the start of construction of the destroyer (DDG-132) "Quentin Walsh" class "Arlie Burke".
This destroyer will be built in the Flight III version.
As reported by TSAMTO, the Arly Burke-class destroyers are multi-purpose warships designed to solve a wide range of tasks in peacetime and wartime, including crisis management, ensuring dominance at sea, projecting military force. The ship is capable of launching missile and artillery strikes against naval groups and ground targets, fighting enemy submarines, providing fire support to Armed Forces units in the coastal zone, as well as performing command and control tasks, air / missile defense.
The destroyers of the Flight III version will be distinguished by advanced air/missile defense capabilities, including a significantly longer range of target detection and tracking. The ship will be equipped with a new AN/SPY-6(V)1 AMDR (Air and Missile Defense Radar) radar system, replacing the SPY-1 radar installed on DDG-51 destroyers of previous modifications, upgraded power supply and cooling systems, and other improved systems.
The last of the General Dynamics Bath Iron Works built on March 8, 2021, the US Navy was transferred to the destroyer squadron (DDG-118) "Daniel Inue" of the Arlie Burke class.
Currently, several more ships of the series are under construction at the BIW enterprise: "Carl Levin" (DDG 120), "John Basilon" (DDG-122), "Harvey S.Barnum Jr." (DDG-124), "Louis H. Wilson Jr. (DDG-126), Patrick Gallagher (DDG-127) and William Charette (DDG-130) of the Arleigh Burke class, as well as the destroyer (DDG-1002) Lyndon B. Johnson of the Zumwalt class.
