The orbital grouping of civil Earth observation satellites currently has 12 vehicles
MOSCOW, November 25. /tass/. The Russian orbital grouping of Earth remote sensing satellites (remote sensing) should increase to 28 spacecraft by 2025. This was stated on Thursday by the head of the Scientific Center for Operational Monitoring of the Earth JSC "Russian Space Systems" (RCS) Alexander Rebri.
"Today, the orbital grouping [of remote sensing satellites] consists of 12 devices for various purposes. According to the Federal Space Program, by 2025 the grouping will grow significantly - up to 28 vehicles," he said at the Interdepartmental Commission on the Use of the Results of Space Activities in the Interests of Socio-economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Regions.
Currently, the orbital grouping of civil Earth observation satellites has 12 devices: two Resurs-P satellites and five Canopus-V satellites for high-detail satellite imagery of the Earth's surface, three Meteor-M and two Electro-L satellites for hydrometeorological support.
For comparison: China has 42 remote sensing satellites, India - 20, the European Union and the USA - 18 each.
