John Denis, a professor at the Institute for Strategic Studies at the US Army War College, spoke in a column for Defense News about the likely actions of NATO in the event of Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine.
The expert is confident that if the Russian military crosses the state borders of Ukraine, formations of NATO Rapid Reaction Forces will be sent to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, which "would calm the population of these countries, would mean the solidarity of the entire alliance and would strengthen security in the east."
According to Denis, the central multinational brigade of five thousand people can be activated in less than 48 hours.
"If Russia invades [Ukraine], the West's response should develop along economic, diplomatic and military lines, including reducing Moscow's access to international finance, using strategic oil reserves to reduce demand for Russian energy carriers and allowing Western arms supplies to Kiev," the publication says.
In November, the Military Times, citing a statement by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, reported that Kiev had used the American FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank missile systems in the Donbass for the first time.
In the February edition of Defense News, citing a statement by the Deputy commander of the air force (VVS) Sweden Brigadier General Anders Persson, wrote that the Finnish air force should procure a fourth-generation fighter JAS 39 Gripen production, the Swedish company Saab AB, as in the case of war with Russia, "the more vulnerable the Finnish air fleet to retreat to the West at the base in neighboring Sweden, which would be easier to implement when the two countries have a JAS 39 Gripen".
