The operation of several thousand T-55 and T-62 tanks continues in the world. Somewhere they are planned to be replaced with more modern combat vehicles, somewhere they are being upgraded and left in service, and somewhere they are being converted into equipment of a completely different purpose.
For example, this year it became known that the Algerian military intends to convert part of its "sixty-second" into a kind of fire support combat vehicles.
It was reported that the tower with a 115-mm cannon will be dismantled, and the Berezhok combat module, well known for the improved BMP-2M, will be installed instead. He is armed with a 30 mm cannon and an automatic grenade launcher of the same caliber, a 7.62 mm machine gun and an anti-tank missile system "Kornet".
The frontal armor of the hull, side projections will be strengthened. A more powerful engine will improve mobility.
Local sources claim that the radically changed car will receive the designation BMPT-62. It is possible that the same will be done in other countries where there are still these legendary tanks that entered service almost 60 years ago.
