In the second half of the 80s, the USSR was going to make a real revolution in the world tank building - the first prototype of the Object-477 "Hammer" tank was made in Kharkov.
The car was a continuation of work on the previously rejected "Object 490" "Rebel", which had an unusual layout and was armed with an improved 125-mm gun. In the new tank, they decided to maximize their firepower and have already used a 152-mm cannon, which can easily destroy any foreign tank even now.
The work was quite difficult for various reasons - the perestroika confusion was already beginning to affect. Nevertheless, a pattern was emerging that would have provided the USSR with superiority over all NATO armored vehicles for a long time. And if not for the collapse of the country, probably already in the early 90s they would have produced a batch of fifty "Hammers" for sending to the troops.
Of course, at first it would have been necessary to eliminate "childhood diseases" during trial operation. Perhaps, over time, the 1200-horsepower engine was replaced with a 1500-horsepower or even a gas turbine. Other novelties of that time, such as an automated command and control system, would have been brought to full perfection.
