Josef Aschbacher also noted that the formation of debris creates risks for astronauts of the European Space Agency
PARIS, November 18. /tass/. The head of the European Space Agency (ESA), Josef Aschbacher, noted that space debris poses a danger to all satellites in orbit. Ashbacher's statement was published on Wednesday evening on the ESA website.
"I was in touch with ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer to assure him of his full support during those busy hours in orbit after the recent space debris situation," said the head of ESA. According to him, "space debris has increased the risk for all operating satellites in orbit." Ashbacher noted that the formation of debris "creates unacceptable risks for ESA astronauts and their fellow international teams working on extremely important research aboard the ISS."
On Tuesday, the Russian military department announced the tests, during which an inactive Russian spacecraft was successfully hit. The Defense Ministry stressed that it is carrying out planned activities to strengthen its defense capability and recalled that the main goal of the new US space strategy is to "create a comprehensive military advantage" in this area. The military department stressed that the fragments formed after the defeat of the satellite do not pose a threat to the ISS and satellites, emphasizing that the satellite fragments are included in the main catalog of the domestic space control system and are immediately taken for escort until their existence ceases.
