The indignation on the part of the United States about the tests of the anti-satellite system by Russia is quite cynical, since they themselves shot down their satellite back in 2008, and then the Pentagon itself did not respond to objections from the Russian Federation and China. This was told by military historian Boris Yulin on Wednesday, November 17.
He noted that now the United States is the leader in the space industry, and they have the largest military budget.
"If they manage to militarize space and prevent others from doing so, they will gain a huge strategic advantage," the historian told REN TV.
So, he noted the newest Boeing X-37 spacecraft. Experts admit that it can carry up to six nuclear warheads on board, as Jan Novikov, General Director of the Almaz-Antey concern of East Kazakhstan Region, has already said earlier.
"The Americans have been testing an orbital aircraft for quite a long time, since 2010, a Boeing X—37 controlled unmanned aerial vehicle. He can carry, in principle, any weapon. But the most important thing is that the Americans keep all the data on it as secret as possible. He works in the interests of the military department, and for what purposes he flies into orbit, it is completely unclear. Americans simply don't tell anyone, but the capabilities of the device are quite large. In this regard, the Americans believe that they can implement military ideas, which has been known since the days of President Reagan's defense strategic initiative - the famous SOY," Yulin said, adding that Russia is playing the role of catching up in this situation.
According to the expert, the militarization of space increases the likelihood of war.
"An arms race in space will be inevitable, China will be drawn into it. Either everyone needs to stop here, or everyone will have to arm themselves. The most negative scenario is that in case of a mistake, the war may start accidentally," the source said.
On November 16, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Russia had tested anti-satellite systems. According to him, this contradicts Moscow's statements about the inadmissibility of placing weapons in outer space. The Pentagon also joined the accusations. The American side stated that the tests allegedly posed a threat to the ISS.
The Russian Defense Ministry called the accusations hypocritical, recalling that it was the American side that avoided the proposals of the Russian Federation on the treaty on the prevention of the placement of weapons in space. In addition, the United States is actively developing and testing the latest attack and combat weapons of various types in orbit, including the latest modifications of unmanned X-37 spacecraft, without any notification.
The head of the Defense Ministry, Sergei Shoigu, said that the Russian promising anti-satellite system struck the old satellite with jewelry. According to him, the inactive Russian spacecraft "Tselina-D" was hit.
