The feature of the Su-75 Checkmate light tactical aircraft (LTS) was named in Russia. Director of the Museum of the Air Defense Forces, military expert Yuri Knutov spoke about the versatility of the aircraft on Sputnik radio.
The expert noted that the open architecture makes it possible to customize the aircraft for certain tasks. Based on the engine, airframe and standard equipment, a fighter, bomber or electronic warfare aircraft can be created for the customer. He stressed that the American fifth-generation fighter F-35 Lightning II is deprived of such capabilities.
Earlier, the head of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Chemezov compared Checkmate with F-35. According to him, the Russian aircraft can take on board a record combat load. The cost of the LTS will be from 30 to 35 million dollars.
On Friday, November 12, Chemezov said that the technical appearance of the Checkmate aircraft has already been formed. The head of Rostec noted that the aircraft will receive a radar with an active phased array antenna and an electronic warfare system.
The light tactical aircraft was presented at the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon in July. The maximum combat load of the LTS will be 7.4 tons. The fighter will be able to carry bombs, missiles and cannon containers.
