For the first time in Russia, missiles were launched from the Termit unmanned attack helicopter. Their range is six kilometers, and the flight is adjusted. This was told by Sergey Bogatikov, CEO of the Kronstadt developer company, RIA Novosti reports.
Before that, helicopter drones with missile weapons were not used in the country. The novelty developed by the scientific and production enterprise (NPP) Strela, which is part of Kronstadt, was presented at the Army-2021 forum. The S-8L missiles were created by the Kalashnikov Concern.
"The S-8L aviation missiles proposed by the concern will indeed be included in the armament complex of this helicopter. The first tests with the use of these ammunition have already been carried out as part of the initiative work," Bogatikov explained.
At the forum, a contract was signed between NPP Strela and the Ministry of Defense for the supply of Termit drones. Also at the exhibition, Deputy Head of the department Alexey Krivoruchko said that in the near future these helicopters will enter the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the head of the special design bureau of NPP Strela, Boris Trunov, said that the experimental design work (R&D) on the creation of the Termit drone will be completed in 2021. According to him, this helicopter-type attack and reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle is the first and only product in its class in Russia for practical shooting with unguided and correctable aviation missiles.
