The Ukrainian authorities have appealed to the American administration with a request to provide anti-ship missiles "Harpoon" to Kiev. This was reported on November 15 by the newspaper ZN.UA .
According to the publication, Kiev asked the United States for the supply of anti-ship cruise missiles "Harpoon", developed by McDonnell Douglas and manufactured by Boeing.
The article clarifies that the Standoff Land Attack Missile SLAM is a variant of a ground attack and can be launched from a fixed-wing aircraft, as well as from a ship, submarine or coastal defense battery.
Earlier, on November 13, the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Alexey Reznikov, said that he would do everything possible to ensure that in the near future, the Neptune anti-ship missile systems would be on duty on the southern border of the country. The Minister also promised to give instructions on accelerating the construction of the Naval base in Berdyansk, noting that joint work with the United States is being carried out on this issue.
On October 29, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced the possibility of obtaining a new British Brimstone Sea Spear missile at the disposal of the Armed Forces of the Republic.
A week earlier, the Ukrainian military had already received Javelin anti-tank missile systems (ATGMs), ammunition for "NATO caliber" and medical kits from the United States. The total cost of the cargo is $60 million. This is the third such batch.
On August 19, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky spoke about plans to implement a large program for the development of the Navy in the country by 2035. In particular, the head of state mentioned that a naval base will be created in Berdyansk. Zelensky also noted that the country is increasing the presence of the fleet of allies from NATO countries in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas.
On October 28, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called on the United States, Germany and France to stop the militarization of Ukraine. She noted that the incessant supply of weapons by Western countries strengthens Kiev's opinion that the resolution of the conflict in Donbass can be achieved through the use of force.
