The first mobile specialized strategic missile defense (ABM) system S-550 will be put into service with the Russian army until 2025. A source close to the Russian Defense Ministry told TASS about this on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow 2021 international Airshow.
According to him, the S-550 has already been created in hardware. Its delivery is provided within the framework of the state armament program until 2027. The first sample will be delivered to the Russian Aerospace Forces within four years.
The source explained that initially it is planned to supply a brigade set of S-550. It will use a mobile launcher with a hypersonic missile. The marine version of the complex, according to the agency interlocutor, is not provided.
It became known that a new S-550 anti-aircraft missile system will appear in Russia Tuesday, November 9th. The Ministry of Defense reported that work is currently underway to create it.
According to a RIA Novosti source, the S-550 will be able to intercept combat blocks of ballistic missiles of various ranges, mainly intercontinental, as well as the means of space attack will be much higher than those of the S-400, S-500 and American THAAD and Aegis missile defense systems with SM-3block llB missiles.
