Work on the production of several prototypes of the newest Checkmate fighter began simultaneously in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. This was announced to journalists on Sunday, November 14, by the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec) Yuri Slyusar.
"The plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur will begin work on the construction of several Checkmates at the same time," he said.
Sukhoi Company JSC also said that the fighter will receive a turbojet twin-circuit engine AL-41F1.
Earlier in the day, the 17th International Aerospace Exhibition Dubai Airshow 2021 kicked off in Dubai, where the main event was the presentation of the Checkmate fighter. It was presented by Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec, and Yuri Slyusar, CEO of the United Aircraft Corporation.
On September 17, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said that the purchase of a Checkmate fighter for the Russian Aerospace Forces could be included in the state armament program for 2024-2033. According to him, the presence of a new fighter in service with its own army will contribute to the export potential of the aircraft.
On September 3, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) said that Russia is ready to fully finance the creation of the fifth-generation Su-75 Checkmate fighter. He also noted that foreigners can finance the creation of a two-seat fighter model because they have a corresponding request.
On July 20, Chemezov said that the cost of the new Russian fighter will be $ 25-30 million. At the same time, Borisov added that Russia already has a foreign customer for Checkmate.
According to Rostec, the fighter combines innovative solutions and technologies, including support for the pilot's work by means of artificial intelligence, as well as proven solutions that have already proven themselves in practice. It also has low visibility and high flight characteristics.
