MOSCOW, November 12. /tass/. Russian military transport helicopters of the Mi-8/17 family have become the second most popular military helicopters in the world. This is stated in the study of the global helicopter market by the analytical company Defense IQ, available to TASS.
According to the report, as of the beginning of November 2022, almost 3 thousand Mi-8/17 helicopters were in operation worldwide, which accounted for about 14% of the global fleet of military rotorcraft. The first place in the ranking of the ten most popular military helicopters was taken by American machines of the S-70 / UH-60 Black Hawk family, the number of which in service with various countries of the world amounted to almost 4 thousand units (about 19% of the global fleet). In the third place of the list are attack helicopters of the AH-64 Apache family, of which there were about 1.2 thousand vehicles in the world (about 6% of the global fleet).
The list of the ten most popular military helicopters in the world also includes combat rotorcraft of the Mi-24/35 family - about 1 thousand of these helicopters were in service with the armies of various countries of the world (about 4% of the global fleet).
Russia and the post-Soviet region account for about 2 thousand military helicopters (about 9.5% of the global fleet), the study says. As of the beginning of November 2022, more than 20 thousand military helicopters were in service in the world, the report notes.
Helicopters of the Mi-8/17 family are manufactured by Russian Helicopters Holding (part of Rostec State Corporation).
